3 Tips for Parenting Young Children

by admin on January 26th, 2012

Small children are an amazing blessing. For starters, they are so cute! It is just a joy and delight to watch them play, and to interact with them. And then, to watch them grow and develop is never dull or boring: before you know it, a newborn is crawling, and then walking. It sure keeps us on our toes! But of course, in all this delight, there is much effort on our part as parents. In fact, it is probably one of the most tiring phases of parenthood. With this in mind, here are three important tips that will help you to parent your young children more effectively.

Tip 1. Be sure to train your toddler to sleep through the night.

It is important that your toddler be trained to sleep through the night sooner rather than later. Having broken sleep is difficult enough (both for you as a parent, and for your toddler), but to have broken sleep periods drag out is very tiring. And so, it is strong advisable that you take active steps to get your child to sleep when they are meant to.

An easy way to do this is with the use of a tool known as the Gro Clock Sleep Trainer. The Gro Clock is simply a clock-like device with two different faces, that change depending on what time of the night it is. When you put your child down to sleep, the clock face is a blue coloured star, signifying that it is well and truly time to go to sleep. This face stays on the Gro Clock until it is time to wake up. At wake up time, the face changes to a yellow sun face. When this happens, your child knows that it is time to get up out of bed: but not before. My niece uses the Gro Clock, and it has been amazingly effective for her. So much so that even when she wakes up early, she knows that it’s not yet time to get up out of bed until the star changes to a sun. A very useful tool, and one worth checking out.

Tip 2. Be sure to engage your baby from it’s earliest days.

Although it might not seem to be worthwhile, it is very important to take time to engage and stimulate your baby from their earliest days. Babies thrive and grow on looking and listening to different things around them (in fact, that is how they learn to talk: by listening to you talking to them, and to others). And so it is important that you as parents make it a part of your daily routine to engage your baby in various ways.

One simple way to do this is with the help of a mat known as the Fisher Price Baby Gym, which is a mat with two overhanging arms. The arms have a variety of fluffy animals on it that dangle, which baby can look at and enjoy. Thus if you put baby on the mat for 20 mins or so at a time, you will find that they will enjoy the looking around at all the animals, and indeed will soon start reaching up for them and touching them. A great way to get them interested, that’s for sure!

Tip 3. Take active steps against SIDS.

SIDS is a deadly killer, taking the life of around 300 babies each year in the UK. It is silent, it is deadly, and worst of all, we don’t know exactly what causes it.

Fortunately, there is now new technology that can be used in the fight against SIDS. The Angelcare AC401 is a baby monitor that not only monitors if you baby is awake and screaming, but also monitors if the are sleeping. It allows you to be in other parts of the house or yard, with a mobile handheld alarm that goes off if it senses that your baby has stopped sleeping. A truly life saving device, and one well worth investigating.

Conclusion.

Life with small children is difficult, to be sure. But with the right advice, it can be more fruitful and satisfying. Click here to visit my blog, which will give more advice on how to parent young children.
