Hello, my name is Valerie Hayes and I am definitely an Everyday Beauty Queen.  But I’m probably not what you think of when you think of a beauty queen.  I was never a pageant contestant as a teen, have never been “Miss Anything”, and really didn’t find pageantry until I was well established in my career as a Fortune 500 human resources executive.  So how did I end up becoming an Everyday Beauty Queen?

A few years ago a friend of mine who owned a pageant boutique asked me to work with a contestant she’d been coaching whose interview was not improving (she knew that I spent most of my working hours coaching executives on communication skills, developing human resources strategies, and all that other boring corporate stuff!).  So after boning up on what real pageantry was all about, I started working with the contestant and not only did she win, she won big!  So then a couple of her friends called me and they won big too!  I quickly realized that the things I’d been teaching all the big execs where the same things that lead to pageant success!  My little “hobby” took off, I opened up a home office, and before I knew it I was in business!

So now I’m a pageant coach known all over the world (which is more than just a bit of a surprise to me) for helping contestants to become totally pageant fab for their next pageant competition.   But what happened after they were done competing?  They started coming back for coaching; but now they wanted advice about how to transfer their pageant skills to other things like job interviews, public speaking or media appearances, and other fabulous personal goals.  So sure, I gave them a little advice here and there, no problem.

But what happened next really surprised me – I found out that not only were pageant contestants reading my email newsletter and listening to Pageant Talk Radio, but people who had never competed and didn’t plan to compete were listening and reading too!  And they started emailing me asking me to open up the conversation to include more “everyday” issues for “everyday” people.  I realized that the things I talk and write about for pageant competition are the very same things that many “real” people want to know about too.  They want to learn, grown, develop, and feel pageant fab everyday even if they never compete in a pageant!

So that’s what this blog, and I, are all about.  Recognizing and celebrating the life-long learner in ourselves and asking ourselves to love where we’re at right now, while challenging ourselves to go even further.  It’s about creating a community of Everyday Beauty Queens who support and celebrate each other.  I know that if you’re even the slightest bit interested in what I’m talking about, that deep down inside of you is an Everyday Beauty Queen just waiting to be pageant fab!
